Oklahoma! - 2009

Based on Green Grow the Lilacs, a stage play by Lynn Riggs, Oklahoma!  brought together for the first time composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The duo would go on to write nine Broadway musicals together, but none would be as important for the development of American musical theatre as Oklahoma!

There high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys where Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, live and eventually fall in love.

Set in the early twentieth century, the musical Oklahoma! tells a simple tale about two frustrated young people; a cowboy Curly (Doug Skilton) and a farm girl Laurey (Linda Skilton), who are adamant they are not in love. Curly's rival is the vaguely sinister ranch hand Jud Fry (Less Skilton) who manages to darken the otherwise light-hearted story. As well as the main story, there is a comic subplot that involves the cowboy Will Parker (John Parkinson) and his quest to marry Ado Annie (Tina Lawson).
